More than 30 animals were removed from a home in the 4800 block of Larkspur Drive on Wednesday as the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office carried out an eviction.
According to information obtained by 3NEWS, sheriff’s deputies and Corpus Christi Animal Care Services were at the property to execute the eviction and remove the animals.
The owner of the animals, Julia Cantu, told 3NEWS she considers herself a local animal rescuer and has taken in numerous stray dogs without homes.
Cantu said she and her husband had been living in the home, which belongs to her husband’s mother.
Family members told 3NEWS the homeowner, who they said is in her 80s, was also evicted from the residence. They described the living conditions inside the home as deplorable.
Cantu said she rented a U-Haul truck to move the dogs before Animal Care Services arrived. However, more than 30 animals were ultimately taken from the property.
Kathleen Chapa, a spokesperson for Corpus Christi Animal Care Services, told 3NEWS the agency could not comment because the case is an ongoing investigation.
