The City of Boerne has issued a disaster declaration due to severe weather and flooding, according to a new update. 

The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Emergency for Boerne until 8:15 p.m. This is the highest threat level, according to the city. 

In a 12:40 p.m. update shared on social media, the city reported that it has responded to at least 20 high-water calls as of 12:30 p.m. So far, first responders have helped some residents shelter in place, escorted multiple people to safety, and assisted with one boat rescue at Herff and River Road, which has been closed due to the water. 

Boerne communications and civic engagement director Chris Shadrock said in a video update on Wednesday morning that the city has not seen conditions this severe since 2015. Shadrock told MySA that as of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the city is still conducting evacuations and rescues, and staff are currently organizing rescues for residents along River Road near downtown.

Boerne officials say they will request additional resources from the state during and after this flooding event. City services, such as trash pickup and recycling collections, will be delayed until further information is available. 

Meanwhile, in nearby Fair Oaks Ranch, just south of Boerne, street closures are affecting residents as floodwaters continue to pool around residential areas. 

In Fair Oaks Ranch, the following roads are currently closed: 

– 7400 block of Rolling Acres Trail (Low Water Crossing)
– Battle Intense at Cibolo Creek Crossing
– 400 block of Ammann Road
– 7800 block of Rolling Acres Trail (Post Oak Creek Low Water Crossing)
– Amman Road and FM 3351 (not in the City Limits)
– 8000 block  of Rolling Acres Trail at Flagstone Hill
– 8500 block of Oakview Pass (tree blocking roadway)
– 30900 block Silver Spur
