FORT WORTH – Thelma Talens Cura passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 87. Thelma will be remembered for her determination, resilience, and deep devotion to her family, especially as she helped raise four children after immigrating to the United States from the Philippines. Thelma was born on June 11, 1939, in the Philippines, to Enriqueta Oliva Talens and Alberto Talens. She was one of seven children in the Talens family: Hermesita, Edilberto, Thelma, Nestor, Orlino, Alberto Jr., and Moises. She was a proud graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital in the Philippines, where she met her future husband, Gene, during a chance encounter on an elevator. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and passed the nursing boards twice-first in the Philippines and later in the United States-while raising her young family. Thelma made her home in Fort Worth, Texas, and worked faithfully as a nurse to support her family alongside her husband, Gene. She loved to shop, enjoyed good food, and found joy in caring for those around her. Thelma’s love for her family was unmatched. She was a devoted wife to Gene and a loving mother to Erwin, Pauline “Polly,” Enrique “Ricky,” and Gene Jr. “Jojo.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Sr.; and her son, Gene Jr. She is survived by her children, Erwin and his spouse, Eileen, Polly and her spouse, Joseph and Ricky and his spouse, Jennie; daughter-in-law, Amber; and her cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Erik, Sam, Tim, Bella, Mia, Luke, McKenzie, Madison and Noah. A memorial service to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. The service will be followed by a come-and-go visitation with her family in Greenwood’s Live Oak Room from 3:45 until 5:45 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of donations, flowers are warmly accepted but optional. Thelma’s legacy lives on through her children, and grandchildren who she loved dearly.
