West University Place has a new fire chief. At its July 13 meeting, officials swore in their new fire chief, Aaron Rosenfield.
Career history
Rosenfield previously served as interim chief after James Novak retired from the role in June. Since joining the department in 2017, he has served the city as a firefighter, paramedic, lieutenant and assistant chief fire marshal. He has over 16 years of experience in the fire service and nine years with West U.
About six months before Novak officially retired, Rosenfield took on additional responsibilities in an effort to train for his new position, City Manager David Beach said.
“I have full faith in Aaron and his leadership, and I look forward to his tenure as the next fire chief,” he said. “And I am excited to watch him grow in his career and support him and changes and the evolution of the fire department.”
Also of note
Rosenfield’s appointment was unanimously approved by City Council.
“I just want to thank you for this opportunity,” Rosenfield said. “I came here about nine years ago as a firefighter from Florida. I didn’t think I had any shot to get a job here, and it’s just a blessing to be here, and I thank you very much for this opportunity.”
Rosenfield’s new role is effective immediately.
