A confirmed tornado tore through San Antonio Wednesday morning, leaving behind damaged homes and business, downed trees and widespread flooding and power outages.
The tornado developed as powerful thunderstorms swept across the area, prompting a Tornado Warning for parts of Bexar, Comal and Kendall counties. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado shortly before 8 a.m. and urged anyone in its path to take shelter immediately.
Some of the most dramatic footage capturing the storm shows eerie blue flashes lighting up the sky as the tornado struck a transformer, knocking out power.
Another captures the damage left behind. Roofs were ripped off apartment buildings, exposing the tops of people’s homes.
Debris littered parking lots as emergency crews responded to reports of damage at an apartment complex and a movie theater.
The same storms also forced Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Hurricane Harbor San Antonio to close Wednesday because of power outages.
No injuries have been reported.
