Construction on the new Uniqlo was slated to begin in February 2025, and it still appears to be underway. While there is no official signage for the store up yet, Barton Creek Mall currently has one empty upstairs and downstairs space teasing something “new and next” on its way.

This Uniqlo will mark the company’s first store in Austin and the Central Texas region. The chain has five stores across the state in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth area.

On MySA’s visit to Barton Creek Square, we noticed six empty storefronts where the new Uniqlo could be housed, but only one two-story space that was covered with construction banners. That space was located on the west side of the mall in between a Lens Crafters and Claw & Fun stores and near the Cheesecake Factory/AMC Theaters entrance.

A peek inside the first story of the store showed a mostly empty space with construction and boxed materials toward the back of the store. The floors and columns appeared to be scraped up from moving materials and the walls still look like they may need a fresh coat of paint.

Founded in 1984 in Hiroshima, Japan, Uniqlo is a casual retail store selling fashionable clothing at affordable prices often referred to as “LifeWear.” The chain has since grown to open more than 2,500 stores worldwide.

Construction on the store is expected to be finished by early September, according to the TDLR. All TDLR filings are subject to change at any time. MySA reached out to Uniqlo and Barton Creek for comment on Uniqlo’s opening date.
