Since its original home on Race Street opened in 2019, The Post has worked hard to make sure its live music stage lived up to the claim of being “Fort Worth’s #1 Listening Room.”

In its new home on 6th Street, nestled behind Birdies Social Club, this might ring true in its biggest form yet. The Post gives fans a casual and eclectic experience unlike any other in Fort Worth and the No. 1 listening room goal is definitely in line with their weekly Texas Tailgate Songwriter Night.

Austin Cox, local musician, member of the band Desert Folk and former host of the Local Show on 95.9 The Ranch, presents the weekly gathering of fresh Fort Worthian talent. Audiences can pull up a seat, order food delivered right to their table from the bar’s restaurant neighbor Blue Mesa, and sip on a cocktail while being among the first to experience musical stylings from the city’s freshest talent.

“The Post is an amazing listening room,” shares Cox. “It’s a perfect place to grab a drink, sit at a table and listen to raw original Texas music,” Cox said. “The listening room environment really adds to the songwriter night experience.”

In addition to being a live-in-the-room experience for patrons of The Post, every songwriter night is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, giving participating artists greater reach as they work to expand their horizons.

“DJ Dugan of Texas Tailgate/Smith Music does an amazing job of documenting every night,” Cox said. “We repost several performances from each week on the Texas Tailgate socials. This not only allows us to promote local artists ourselves, but it gives local artists great content that they can also share with their own fan base.”

While shining the light on new musical talent in Panther City, Cox works to book at least one special guest a month to act as an opener for the night’s talents.

“I try and book artists that are already touring and putting out records in North Texas,” Cox said. “What other songwriter night in town can you get a free Charlie Shafter set before the sign up list even starts? It’s been really great seeing some of the younger artists get inspired by our special guests.”

If you are an up-and-coming local artist seeking community or a fan of the Fort Worth music scene, Cox recommends stopping by the songwriter nights.

“It’s a great place to share your songs and meet other artists within the scene,” Cox said. “The Post is in my opinion the best listening room in town.”
