The City Magazine brought the excitement to downtown El Paso for its quarterly launch party and cover reveal, unveiling a July issue dedicated to the medical professionals caring for families across the Borderland.
The sponsored Daytime segment was filmed at The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park, where guests gathered for an evening celebrating the magazine’s newest issue and the local doctors featured inside. The event was more than a magazine launch. It was a spotlight on the people helping shape the future of medicine in El Paso.
Veronica Nevarez said The City Magazine hosts launch parties for each cover as part of a larger reveal, and this issue carried special meaning.
“The magazine has done launch parties for every cover as a big reveal,” Nevarez said. “This issue is extra special.”
Nevarez said the July issue focuses on the medical community because of the impact doctors and health care professionals continue to make across the city.
“Bottom line, they’re worth being recognized for what they do for the community,” Nevarez said. “This issue is going to essentially focus on how our medical professionals are really shaping the future of medicine in El Paso.”
The issue features Dr. Jose D. Burgos on the cover. Burgos said the recognition came as a surprise, but also as a meaningful reminder that the work physicians do each day is noticed by the community they serve.
“I was actually surprised and honored to be recognized in this medical issue,” Burgos said. “Physicians don’t really do things for recognition. We do things because we really want to make a difference in the lives of individuals.”
For Burgos, the honor reflects more than one person’s career. It reflects years of work rooted in service, connection and community building.
“It is always amazing to realize that people appreciate what you do day by day, because it’s a labor of love,” Burgos said. “We don’t build downtown. We don’t build these structures. We build community. And the fact that people notice that I’ve been building this community for the past 20 years is incredible. I’m just honored to be part of this.”
The celebration also featured Dr. Estephan Garcia of El Paso Children’s Hospital, who said he recently retired from the military after 18 years caring for soldiers at Fort Bliss. He has since joined El Paso Children’s Hospital and Texas Tech, giving him a new opportunity to serve families throughout the community.
“This has given us the opportunity to kind of let the community know that although I’ve been here, I’m now available to see everybody in the community,” Garcia said.
Garcia said El Paso Children’s Hospital has also expanded its pediatric orthopedic care with two fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeons recruited from outside the area.
“When it comes to orthopedic conditions for your kids, there’s really nothing that we can’t treat,” Garcia said.
The evening wrapped with plenty of energy, celebration and pride as The City Magazine revealed its July cover and honored some of the doctors featured in the issue.
