The Comal River is still closed to recreation, as is the springfed pool at Landa Park Aquatic Complex and River Acres Park. Meanwhile Cypress Bend Park, the Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs, the Landa Park Aquatic Complex Olympic Pool & Zero Depth Pool and the City Recycle Center have all reopened.
The Guadalupe River in New Braunfels is sitting at 2.32 gage height, feet as of 12:30 p.m., but the City of New Braunfels still urges swimmers to use extreme caution as hazards such as fast-moving water, rapids, floating and submerged debris and poor water clarity may persist.
As far as road closures, River Road between Rock Street and Loop 337 and Krueger Canyon Road between Wald Road and FM 482 are still closed, according to the City of New Braunfels.
Comal County as a whole is still reporting nine road closures as Thursday afternoon. They are as follows:
The county will remain under a flood watch until 7 p.m. Thursday evening, per the NWS Austin/San Antonio office.
As the week of heavy rains persists, those in the Texas Hill Country need to be mindful of road closures impacting the area should they need to hit the road. As of 7:40 a.m. Thursday morning, July 16, 15 roads remain closed across Comal County, impacting drivers in New Braunfels, Bulverde and across the country.
Comal County officials alerted residents about the closures at 5:30 a.m., reminding folks to check out the Comal County website to be aware of road closures and to never drive through a flooded roadway. The roads closed are as follows:
“There is a potential for life threatening flooding somewhere in the watch area,” NWS writes. “Considerable to locally catastrophic flash flooding impacts are likely in the southern Edwards Plateau, Rio Grande, western Hill Country and US 90 corridor west of San Antonio. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Catastrophic impacts are possible downstream of the heaviest rains. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible.”
