Seven educators received funding to purchase classroom supplies, easing out-of-pocket costs ahead of the new school year.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Seven Coastal Bend teachers received a welcome boost for their classrooms thanks to a shopping spree sponsored by the Corpus Christi Hooks and Reliant, helping educators stock up on supplies before students return.
The annual program provides selected teachers with funds to purchase classroom materials and resources, helping offset expenses many educators often pay out of their own pockets.

Marissa Hernandez, a fifth-grade math and science teacher at West Oso Elementary, said the opportunity comes at a time when classroom funding remains a challenge.
“I’m super grateful for the Hooks and Reliant for this opportunity,” Hernandez said. “Every year it is kind of a struggle getting funds to fund our classrooms.”
Hernandez said the shopping spree allows her to buy more than just supplies for her own students. This year, she’s also purchasing materials for her grade-level team.
“Because of this opportunity, I get to include a lot more materials and resources, not only for myself but for my team as well,” she said.
She said programs like this provide much-needed relief as educators continue navigating tight budgets.
“Funding gets scarce every year,” Hernandez said. “This type of relief is necessary and critical for teachers all over Texas and all over the country.”
The Corpus Christi Hooks and Reliant host the shopping event each year to recognize local educators and help ensure classrooms are equipped with the tools students need to succeed.
