PROVO, Utah – No. 8 BYU football vs. Texas Tech is the game of the weekend for many fans across the college football landscape as the regular season creeps toward an end. BYU and Texas Tech will be meeting for just the third time.

The Cougars travel to Lubbock to meet with the No. 9 Red Raiders on Saturday, November 8.

The Red Raiders (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) have won two straight, outscoring Oklahoma State and Kansas State 85-20 since suffering their first loss of the year in a dramatic 26-22 road loss to Arizona State.

BYU looks for second Big 12-era win over Red Raiders

These two programs meet for the third time on Saturday night. Each team won on its home turf, with Texas Tech earning a one-point win during the first year of World War II.

The only recent matchup was a Cougar win in Provo on October 21, 2023.

1940 – Texas Tech 21, BYU 20

Head coach Eddie Kimball led a BYU team that finished the season 2-4-2 into Lubbock. The Cougars fell 21-20 to Pete Cawthon’s 9-1-1 Red Raiders.

2023 – Texas Tech 14, BYU 27

The first Big 12 matchup between the two programs came in Provo in 2023, landing on ESPN for “Big 12 After Dark”. A 13-point BYU win was marred by a first-half spitting incident that saw Texas Tech TE Jayden York get ejected for allegedly spitting on defensive lineman Tyler Batty.

York currently plays for the Houston Cougars.

On the field, Chase Roberts and Darius Lassiter caught touchdown passes from Kedon Slovis, while Will Ferrin booted two field goals in the win.

Slovis finished with 127 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. LJ Martin ran for 93 yards on ten carries to lead the team. Lassiter caught four balls for a team-high 47 yards; Roberts caught two passes for nine yards.

BYU defensive back Eddie Heckard earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after intercepting a pass and falling on a fumble in the end zone for six points.

Crew Wakley (11 tackles) and Jakob Robinson (ten tackles) led the defense in tackles.
