Saturdays in the Fall at Jones Stadium are legendary in Lubbock. Now, those Texas Tech football experiences will take place at Galaxy Stadium.
Texas Tech announced a 15-year naming-rights agreement with Galaxy, a company that specializes in data center infrastructure and digital assets. The partnership, which was announced Friday, is worth $75 million, according to multiple reports. Galaxy’s Helios AI and HPC (high-performance computing) Data Center campus is located on 1,500 acres in Dickens County, just outside of Lubbock.
“We’re pleased to welcome Galaxy as the new naming rights partner of our football stadium,” Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a statement released by the school. “When I visit with alumni across the country, the conversation almost always turns to their favorite memories inside our stadium. We look forward to creating many more of those moments together in Galaxy Stadium, one of the premier home-field environments in college football. This long-term partnership with Galaxy will have a lasting impact on Texas Tech athletics.”
The partnership with Galaxy will include NIL and commercial revenue opportunities for Texas Tech athletes.
When the stadium opened in 1947, it was named for former Texas Tech president Clifford B. Jones and his wife Aubrey. The school received a corporate sponsor in 2000 and the name was changed to Jones SBC Stadium, then Jones AT&T Stadium in 2006, but fans often lovingly refer to it simply as “The Jones.” Texas Tech says it still plans to “honor its original stadium namesake” with details pending.
