SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is investigating an officer-involved-shooting that left a man dead early Thursday morning.
Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame says two officers noticed a suspicious man riding a bicycle around 2 a.m. in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue on the East Side. The probationary officer and a training officer followed the man when he refused to stop, and they were able to engage him in front of a home after calling for backup.
Investigators say the man quickly pulled a gun and pointed it at five officers at the scene. The department says four of the five officers pulled their guns and fired, killing the man at the scene.
Police say the man had some type of aerosol can, possibly containing a flammable substance, but investigators think this played no role in his death.
The man’s name has not been released, and he was only described as being in his 30s or 40s.
