LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Eight more now a part of Lubbock sports royalty. On Saturday evening, eight new honorees became a part of the Lubbock ISD Hall of Honor.

One of the youngest inductees is Robyn Smith Everson, who helped lead Coronado High School to the Class 5A volleyball state championship game as a junior in 2004, the most recent appearance for any Lubbock ISD school.
“I would definitely say that even though in that season that we were runner up in state, I don’t think that was probably ever like our ambitions. Yes, it was to win, it was to do great things, but I don’t know if we ever knew we were even capable of that until we did it!,” she said.
After graduating from Coronado, Everson went on to play at the University of Central Arkansas, who was then debuting as a Division I school.
Joining Everson in the Hall of Honor was Tim Leslie, who played baseball for the legendary Bobby Moegle at Monterey High School from 1974-76.
“It’s quite an honor. I didn’t really expect it. I kind of had a different senior year there, I had a lot of injuries, but it was quite an honor- especially special because I grew up basically with LISD being my extended family. I grew up at Chapman Fieldhouse because of my dad coaching and everything like that.”
His father EC Leslie played for the semi-pro Lubbock Hubbers. The club was honored last week with a historical marker.
Michael McWilliams was there at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Saturday, along with his family, to represent the late Joe McWilliams, who played basketball for the Dunbar Panthers 1959-62, and was a part of the 1962 state championship team. In 1975, he returned to Dunbar and became head basketball coach.
“Of course, we lost our dad in 2000, and so we’ve been very reflective on the man that he was since being notified that he would be honored. He was just a great man, he served his family well, he served his community, and I understand that the discipline, the integrity, the perseverance that I saw in him was a direct result of playing sports- and he sowed that into us,” he said, while speaking of his father’s legacy.
