The search for multiple people who went tubing on the Frio River on Saturday, July 18, is now over.
A Facebook post by the Concan Volunteer Fire Department revealed that emergency crews were searching for the missing individuals who disappeared on the Frio River this weekend. The search was focused around Concan, Texas, located roughly an hour and a half west of San Antonio.
“Concan Fire & EMS, along with our partner agencies, are currently searching for individuals who went tubing and have not returned,” the post said late Saturday night. “We ask everyone to stay off the river and avoid creating additional emergencies while these operations are underway.
The river is currently flowing at approximately 1,900 cubic feet per second (CFS), making conditions unsafe for any recreational river activity.

Flowing at a rate of approximately 1,900 cubic feet per second, the fast-moving current presents dangerous conditions for tubing and other recreational activities at the moment. It was only yesterday that leaders in the city urged residents to avoid flooded roadways before issuing a voluntary evacuation notice as rapidly rising river levels continued to create dangerous conditions.
A flood safety alert was issued for the areas around Farm-to-Market Road 1581 and County Roads 4550 and 4440, according to KENS. County Road 4440 is currently impassable, and water levels only continue to rise, increasing the risk that additional roads could become unsafe.
According to KENS, authorities reported that the Frio River is rising at approximately one foot every two minutes. Emergency responders again ask the public to avoid the river to prevent additional rescues.
