Five people have died following a multi-car collision just outside Sinton over the weekend, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to the DPS, Samantha Cruz (37) from Corpus Christi along with Sara Cruz (63), Sonia Montes (64), and Sallie Montes (61), were pronounced dead at the scene of the scene. Ruben Cruz, 68, was taken by Halo Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline before dying from his injuries.
The DPS said a 46-year-old man and his two sons were not seriously injured in the crash. EMS personnel took them to Northwest Emergency Room, according to DPS.
According to DPS, a Grand Cherokee allegedly driven by Cruz was heading south on Highway 77 around 8:30 a.m. on July 18, before allegedly failing to yield the right of way at the stop sign. The Cherokee then collided with a Toyota Tundra traveling south on Highway 89, according to a news release from the DPS.
Trooper from the Texas Highway Patrol Office in Sinton are continuing to investigate the crash, according to the DPS.
