EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Back-to-school.
Those words conjure up some different feelings — excitement for both parents and kids about the upcoming school year. But back-to-school can also mean a little bit of worry, especially when it comes to paying for everything.
Sunday, July 19, El Paso’s Abundant Church held its annual Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway.
About 1,500 new backpacks, filled with school supplies, like pencils, notebooks and folders, were distributed to school-age children and their parents following Sunday services at all three church locations.
The giveaway is part of Abundant Church’s Heart of Abundant outreach initiative, which seeks to extend the church’s mission by meeting practical needs while creating opportunities for connection, encouragement and hope, the church said.
“With back-to-school, there is a great need,” Lead Pastor Jared Nieman said. “Kids need backpacks. They need supplies. That supply list doesn’t change. And it’s pretty big. For many years, decades, we have understood that there are people in our community who are at times struggling. Maybe, finances are tight. We just want to be a help, to be a blessing.”
