79-year-old passenger killed in Arlington crash. Driver says she was trying to avoid another vehicle.

Driver says she took evasive action to avoid another vehicle and hit a tree, killing her passenger.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A 79-year-old woman died following a crash late Sunday morning in Arlington, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Officers responded around 11:03 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, to a single-vehicle wreck in the 2600 block of New York Avenue. Police said a 2019 Cadillac CT5 traveled off the roadway and struck a tree in the median.

The 79-year-old victim, who was a passenger in the Cadillac, was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 66-year-old woman, was also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the driver reported she was traveling northbound on New York Avenue when another vehicle unexpectedly entered her lane. She told officers she took evasive action to avoid a collision, which caused her vehicle to go off the road and hit the tree.

The crash remains under active investigation by Arlington police.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s name once official identification and next-of-kin notifications are complete.
