The city of Fort Worth plans to install a traffic signal, marked crosswalks and redesigned left-turn lanes at Camp Bowie West Boulevard and Broadmoor Drive intersection.
Roughly 23,000 vehicles pass through the section each day, project manager Abby Tucker from the Fort Worth Department of Transportation and Public Works said during a June 16 community meeting at the R.D. Evans Community Center. Tucker and Kimley-Horn engineer Abhishek Acharya presented the plan.
“There have been many pedestrians observed crossing Camp Bowie, either to go to Western Hills High School or other areas,” Tucker said. “We did a site visit to go out here and take a look at the design, and it was a little scary having to cross.”
The project, located in Council District 3, aims to increase vehicle capacity and safety; reduce delays and improve the intersection’s level of service, an A-F system measuring delays at intersections; and add pedestrian crossings. Planned improvements include redesigned left-turn lanes, pedestrian access ramps, traffic signal and additional lighting.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2027 and projected to be complete by early 2028. The project, funded with 2022 bond and Neighborhood Improvement Program funds, has a construction contract of $900,000 and an overall project budget of $2 million, according to Tucker.
Camp Bowie West Boulevard and Broadmoor Drive are part of the city’s Vision Zero High-Injury Network, which identifies streets and intersections with the highest concentrations of fatal and serious-injury crashes. The city uses the data to prioritize safety improvements.
The network represents 6% of Fort Worth streets but accounts for 54% of the fatal and severe accidents. Vision Zero is a data-supported strategy based on the premise that traffic deaths and serious injuries are preventable. The city adopted the plan in Sept. 2025.
A 2021 Roadway Safety Assessment identified infrastructure improvements needed to reduce risks at the Camp Bowie West Boulevard and Broadmoor Drive intersection.
Camp Bowie West Boulevard at Broadmoor Drive is a six-lane divided intersection with left turn lanes serving Broadmoor Drive to the north and a driveway to the south.
During the meeting, a resident asked why the city selected the intersection instead of another. Tucker cited the number of pedestrians crossing this intersection go to Western Hills High School. She also noted there are no crosswalks and pedestrians need time to cross the intersection.

During the meeting, Kimley-Horn engineer Acharya said the intersection has a negative offset, which can block driver’s visibility of oncoming traffic. Negative offsets can obstruct sightlines and reduce safety, according to the Federal Highway Administration.
According to Acharya, the project will offset left turn lanes from through traffic by narrowing the median and by using road goring — elongated, triangular gore areas with chevron striping. The remaining median adjacent to the turn-lane cutouts will be stamped concrete.
The sidewalks, ramps and crossings will be ADA-compliant, according to Tucker.
