The San Antonio Police Department has identified the man who was fatally shot by officers and the officers involved in last week’s East Side shooting.
The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. July 16 in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue near Interstate 10 and Rigsby Avenue, according to a preliminary SAPD report.
Police said officers tried to stop Andrew Davila Jr., 52, while he was riding a bicycle, but he refused and rode away. According to SAPD, officers pursued Davila, who then pulled out a gun and pointed it at several officers.

Officers Felix Rodriguez, Thomas Smith, Kenneth Hernandez and Reed Butler fired multiple shots, striking Davila Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
According to police, Smith is a 20-year veteran of the department, Butler has nine years of service, and Rodriguez and Hernandez have each served for two years.
SAPD’s shooting team and Internal Affairs Unit will conduct separate but concurrent investigations. Their findings will then be forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for an independent review.
