One Texas news leader will soon give its home a $15 million facelift.
Texas Monthly, a leading publication in the Lone Star State, will undergo a $15 million interior renovation, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) document obtained by Chron on Tuesday. The renovation of the building at 1801 North Lamar in Austin will begin Jan. 4, 2027, with an estimated completion date at the end of June 2027.
The renovation is privately funded, per the TDLR document. It’s unclear whether the renovation will displace employees at the Texas Monthly office. Chron could not reach Texas Monthly for comment as of Tuesday morning.
Texas Monthly says it’s a leader in documenting life in the Lone Star State, with coverage of “politics and personalities, barbecue and business, true crime and tacos, honky-tonks and hiking.” It celebrated an array of awards last month’s City and Regional Magazine Association conference, taking home 10 prizes, the most of any publication. Texas Monthly was honored for its coverage of the tragic Kerr County floods in July 2025, the cover story for its August 2025 print issue.
Texas Monthly began operations in 1973, and now touts a monthly audience of more than 34 million through its print magazine, website, podcasts, videos, books and live events. Subscribers to Texas Monthly’s written work can get access to all print and digital content for $25 per year, a digital-only subscription for $15 per year and a print-only subscription for $15 per year.
