SNYDER, Texas (KCBD) – A vintage gas station on the corner of Coliseum Drive and 25th Street has become a roadside landmark, drawing attention nationwide and around the world.
Lynn Fuller restored the former Sinclair station in 2011 after the structure had fallen into disrepair. Built in 1932, the station no longer pumps gas — it now serves as a small museum and gathering place.
Fuller said the project crew well beyond his original plans.
“Meant to just repair it,” he said. “But one thing led to another, kind of like restoring a car, and there was nowhere to stop.”
The interior space is compact, but the collection has expanded outdoors. Displays outside the station include an iconic Apatosaurus figure and a carousel horse.
Fuller said the station has become a focal point for Snyder residents and returning alumni.
“Everybody grew up here and this was kind of the focal point,” he said. “They’ll have a class reunion, say class of ‘68. We’ll get a restored car and play music.”
He said visitors regularly stop to take pictures and share memories tied to the location.
“It’s a lot of fun talking to people from all over the United States and actually all over the world that stopped by here and take pictures,” Fuller said.
He says his family history in Scurry County spans more than a hundred years, and the restoration was motivated by a sense of community.
“It’s just something I wanted to do for Snyder,” he said. “And they’ve been very, very, very appreciative and I’d do it again.”
As for his wife’s reaction to the ongoing project, Fuller offered a brief summary.
“Well, I guess she’s very excited, she’s speechless,” he said. “She hadn’t talked to me since I bought it.”
