GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) — Gatesville police said a 9-month-old child was taken to the hospital after officers responding to a welfare check observed signs of “extreme malnourishment” at a home Monday night.
Officers were dispatched around 8:45 p.m. July 20 to the 100 block of North 27th Street after a caller reported concerns that the infant was not being cared for and appeared malnourished, according to the Gatesville Police Department.
Coryell Health EMS was called to the scene and transported the child to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple.
Police said a Child Protective Services special investigator is working the case with the department. CPS took protective custody of the 9-month-old, and two other children in the home were placed with a relative.
On Tuesday, July 21, Judge Coy Latham issued arrest warrants for both parents, police said. The mother, 23-year-old Jenny Sanchez, was arrested by Temple police at the children’s hospital. The father, 22-year-old Adariance Rahman, was arrested by Gatesville police at the residence.
Both are charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony, and endangering a child, a second-degree felony.
