GARZA COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) – Texas DPS says a 77-year-old Willow Park man was killed Wednesday morning after his pickup drifted into an adjacent lane and was struck by a semi-truck on US Highway 84.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:26 a.m. at the intersection of US Highway 84 and FM 211 in Garza County.
According to a preliminary DPS investigation, both vehicles were traveling northwest on US 84. The semi-truck was in the left lane and the pickup was in the right lane when the pickup began to drift left for unknown reasons.
The semi struck the driver’s side of the pickup. Both vehicles then traveled into the center median and struck the cable barrier.
Richard Baack, 77, of Willow Park, was pronounced dead at the scene. Baack was wearing a seatbelt.
The semi driver was not injured.
DPS said the cause of the drift remains under investigation.
