North Texas is in the middle of the hottest week of 2026 thus far, and the weather is not expected to cool down during the daytime anytime soon.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures hit 105 degrees at DFW International Airport, the highest recorded temperature this summer, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
Last year, data from the weather service indicates the hottest temperature recorded in D-FW was 104 degrees on July 31.
Dallas remains under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Thursday, but the weather service says this advisory is likely to be extended through the remainder of the week as the forecast shows no sign of cooling in the foreseeable future.
Due to this week’s extreme heat, the weather service is encouraging North Texans to know the signs of heat-related illnesses while also drinking a lot of water, wearing loose fitting clothing, limiting time outside when possible and staying in the shade. The weather service is encouraging anyone without housing or air conditioning to seek respite at the region’s cooling centers.
Thursday’s high is forecast by the weather service to be 100 degrees, with a low of 80.
The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could rise to 107. This will be lower than Wednesday’s 117 heat index high, but sweltering nonetheless.
Rain chances remain nonexistent in the forecast, meaning clear skies will bring little relief from the heat. According to the weather service, the heat is set to be accompanied by a slight breeze and moderate humidity throughout the remainder of the week.
Friday, temperatures could reach a high of 99 degrees with a heat index of 107, according to the weather service.
The forecast through the weekend and into next week is nearly identical, with a high of 100 degrees and heat index of 107 predicted by the weather service for Saturday followed by highs of 102 degrees Sunday, 103 degrees Monday and 104 degrees Tuesday.
“There is no strong signal for rain chances through the end of the month, so the doldrums of summer appear to be upon us as we close out the month of July,” the weather service’s forecast discussion reads.
