Some Oklahomans reported waking up to shaking at 5:21 a.m. after an earthquake in Spearman, Texas, which is northeast of Amarillo. The shaking was felt all the way in western Oklahoma.
KOCO 5 Meteorologist Mikayla Smith says this was a shallow earthquake, with a depth of only 5.7 kilometers. This means it was felt more at the surface, and earthquakes like these typically lead to more aftershocks.
Residents in Elk City, Woodward, Cordell, Erick, Duke and other areas in the western part of Oklahoma reported feeling the shaking.
