The top recruit in Texas is reclassifying.
The news comes less than a month after Meredith was ruled ineligible for his upcoming senior high school season by the UIL state executive committee after transferring from Euless Trinity.
“It’s not a secret why he was a top two or three player in the 2027 class,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said during his SEC media days appearance Thursday following the announcement. “So, for us to get him now, we’ll see how far we can take him.
“I do know he’s got the right competitive spirit. I do know he’s got the skillset and the ability to be a good player for us. How long that takes, we’ll find out.”
Meredith is the top-rated recruit in the D-FW area and is considered a consensus five-star cornerback by every recruiting site. He was the No. 1 overall recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports.
At Euless Trinity, Meredith played both ways, recording six rushes for 112 yards on offense and was named a MaxPreps All-American for his defensive play.
Back in June, the district executive committee for District 11-6A ruled Meredith ineligible by a 5-2 vote, saying that Meredith transferred for athletic purposes. Meredith and his family appealed the decision to the UIL state executive committee where he was denied by a 3-2 vote.
