The region remains under a heat advisory issued by the weather service until at least 8 p.m. Friday. The advisory is likely to extend into the weekend.
Friday’s high is expected to top out at 98 degrees, according to the weather service, with a low of 80. The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, is forecast to rise to 106.
Though 98 is not abnormal for Texas summer, the weather service attributes the necessity of a heat advisory because of the heat index, heightened with increased humidity.
The weather service is also asking North Texas residents to remain aware of the increased risk of heat-related illnesses this week.
There is no chance of rain Friday, and sunny skies and moderate humidity will clear the way for the heat index to rise, according to the weather service. These conditions are set to reign true through the weekend and into next week.
Saturday’s high is forecast to be 100 degrees, with a heat index of 106. Sunday’s is forecast at 102 degrees, with a heat index of 107, according to the weather service.
Early next week, temperatures are set to remain in the triple digits, reaching as high as 105 degrees Wednesday. The heat index is forecast to reach as high as 109 Monday.
The weather service anticipates this pattern of hot and dry weather will persist through the end of July.
