Flood warnings remain in effect across parts of South Central Texas and areas south of San Antonio, even as river levels are expected to begin falling and drier weather moves into the region.
The Frio River at Tilden climbed to nearly 30 feet during this week’s flooding, but the National Weather Service says it is forecast to drop below flood stage over the weekend. Even so, forecasters warn major flooding will continue along the Frio River through the next couple of days as runoff from earlier heavy rain works its way downstream.

The flooding threat also remains high along the Nueces River. The National Weather Service continues to forecast major flooding near Cotulla over the next several days, with river flood warnings extending downstream into McMullen County, south of Tilden, where major flooding is expected to continue through the weekend.
In Cotulla, west of Tilden along Interstate 35, residents are beginning to assess the damage left behind after the Nueces River crested at roughly 29 feet. Several homes were flooded, forcing many families into hotels, while others chose to remain because evacuation orders were voluntary.

The rain associated with Bertha will move out this morning, with dry weather expected through the weekend and all of next week. Despite the improving forecast, officials continue urging people to stay away from flooded roads and monitor river conditions, as water levels along the Frio and Nueces rivers will remain dangerously high even after the rain ends.
