‘Ensuring our Texans are supported, nourished’

Tarleton State University’s Fort Worth campus has received certification helping reduce food insecurity, according to a press release. 

The Purple Pantry located on the Fort Worth campus was given the Ready to Nourish certification by the Tarrant Area Food Bank. The initiative was designed by TAFB to help reduce nutrition insecurity through education, community partnerships, and access to healthy foods in the area. 

“We are honored to receive the Ready to Nourish™ designation,” said Dr. Diana Ortega, Vice President for Student Engagement and Success. “This recognition reflects Tarleton State University’s commitment to student well-being and success by ensuring students have access to the resources they need to thrive. The Purple Pantry plays a vital role in supporting students and helping them achieve their educational goals.”

The partnership is said to strengthen the networks focus on providing access to lifelong healthy habits and foods in order to help students thrive academically. The Purple Panty is located in the Campus Administration Building stocked with frozen, refrigerated, and shelf-stable foods and supplies. 

“Student success begins with meeting the basic needs of our students,” said Isabel Talamantes, Student Resources and Basic Needs Manager for the Division of Student Engagement and Success at Tarleton State. “As the first university in Texas to earn this certification, Tarleton State continues to lead with purpose, ensuring our Texans are supported, nourished and empowered to succeed.”
