Hospitality and food service workers are getting served a special night out on one of their precious days away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. Those working in Houston hospitality will be able to attend an exclusive free advance screening of the highly anticipated Anthony Bourdain film Tony on Monday, Aug. 3.
A24 announced the free events in partnership with OpenTable and Square, inviting servers, dishwashers, line cooks, maître d’s and more to be some of the first viewers of the biopic of one of the food industry’s biggest icons.
The screenings, dubbed “Industry Night,” will be held in 25 cities, including Houston, Austin and Dallas. A local chef from each city has been chosen to host the event. Front-and back-of-house employees from other nearby restaurants, as well as employees from OpenTable and Square’s restaurant network, will be invited.
Felipe Riccio and Austin Waiter of the Goodnight Hospitality Group will be hosting the Houston Industry Night Screening of Tony. Goodnight Hospitality is the group behind popular Houston restaurants including Rosie Canonball and the Michelin star-rated March.
The film is a coming-of-age story following the origins of the beloved food and cultural figure.
Tony stars Dominic Sessa (who made his film debut in the Oscar-nominated film The Holdovers), who plays a 19-year-old Bourdain, as he spends a life-changing summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts, in 1975. The story focuses on Bourdain’s first time working in a kitchen at a local restaurant alongside the chef played by Antonio Banderas and a chaotic and tight-knit crew.

Tony will release in select US theaters on Aug. 7 before expanding nationwide on Aug. 21.
