Little relief ahead as heat tightens its grip

  • July 24, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Heat Advisory is in effect for areas off the Caprock from 1 PM until 9 PM this evening where humidity will make already-hot temperatures feel as high as 105 to 109 degrees in the advisory area.

A few storms may become strong to severe, and the main threats include damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rain.

Saturday will see a “slight” break in the triple digits with highs in the brisk upper 90s.

A few additional storms could develop in the afternoon, but rain chances decrease as an upper-level heat dome expands over the region.

This will send temperatures back into the low 100’s with additional heat advisories likely next week.

No meaningful relief is expected through at least Thursday.

Be sure to stay hydrated and take shaded breaks if you’re working outdoors. High temperatures with high humidity make it harder for your body to cool itself.
