Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested Thursday night in Wisconsin on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Romo was driving southbound on Interstate 43 after 6 p.m. on Thursday when a county officer pulled him over and issued a standard field sobriety test. Romo performed “poorly,” according to the arrest report. He was then taken into custody and booked into county jail after 9 p.m and subsequently released.
Romo, an avid golfer, spent Thursday playing in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship at the West Bend Country Club. The tournament ran from Monday to Thursday. Romo shot 35-over par for the tournament and 11-over par on Thursday, according to the tournament website’s leaderboard. He tied for 73rd.
A court hearing for Romo, a Wisconsin native, is scheduled for Sept. 21.
Romo spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the Cowboys. He went from an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Illinois to becoming the all-time passing leader in Cowboys’ history. Dak Prescott, his heir apparent, passed that record this past season.
Romo has worked as the lead color analyst for CBS Sports since 2017. He reportedly signed a 10-year, $180 million extension with the network in 2020.
