A tragic crash in Burleson County last weekend has resulted in the deaths of two women from Corpus Christi.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, it was around 2:15 p.m. Sunday, July 19, when authorities received reports of a two-vehicle crash.
First responders rushed to the scene and found two women dead. Two children were seriously injured and taken to the hospital, while three people with minor injuries were also hospitalized.
Troopers with DPS say Clarissa Nunez, 43, of Corpus Christi, was driving a four-door sedan west on Farm-to-Market Road 60 and stopped at the intersection with State Highway 36, about 10 miles southwest of College Station.
Troopers say Nunez tried to make a left turn onto SH 36 but failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a pickup truck traveling northbound on SH 36.
Both Nunez and front-seat passenger Diamantina Martinez, 68, of Corpus Christi, were killed in the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two children riding in the back seat of the Kia, an 8-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, were taken to McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple.
As for the people in the truck, the driver and two passengers were taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan with minor injuries.
Since the tragedy, friends of the victims have set up a GoFundMe on behalf of the family.
The account identifies Martinez as the mother of Nunez and says the Corpus Christi family is reeling from their deaths.
Organizers say the money raised will help cover some of the funeral and memorial expenses for the mother and daughter.
