SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Water quality is a hot topic at Canyon Lake after heavy rain and flooding last week.
Flooding will often bring contaminants and debris to rivers and lakes, and residents and visitors in the area are being urged to swim with caution. Debris has been reported, although some believe this is not as big of a concern as it was following the deadly flood along the Guadalupe River on July 4, 2025.
If you are headed to the lake, you are urged to swim only in designated beaches while wearing life jackets.
In Kerr County, officials say initial testing at numerous Upper Guadalupe River sites were within the state’s recreational standard for water quality, although it is noted that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will test Canyon Lake water next week.
Until then, it is recommended that you avoid any stagnant or foul-smelling water should you come in contact with it.
