Another Texas TV newsroom is saying goodbye to one of its on-air personalities. Bilingual anchor and reporter Esmeralda Zamora has signed off from Austin’s KXAN and is beginning a new chapter outside the newsroom.
After two years at KXAN, Zamora shared that Thursday, July 23, marked her final day at the station, calling her departure “bittersweet” while thanking her coworkers and the viewers who supported her throughout her time there.
“I’ll forever cherish the laughs, the memories, and the incredible people I had the privilege of meeting along the way,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “KXAN will always have a special place in my heart.”
In a statement to MySA, Zamora reflected on her journey from starting her career at Telemundo Corpus Christi to spending the past two years as a live streaming digital anchor at KXAN.
“Leaving KXAN is definitely bittersweet,” she said. “I’ve grown so much as both a journalist and a person. I’m incredibly grateful for every story, every mentor, and every opportunity along the way.”
Next up, Zamora will serve as social and community manager at MAX.Live, where she’ll represent the South Texas Ford Dealers online and at community events.
“While I’m stepping away from the newsroom, storytelling has always been at the heart of what I do, and I’m looking forward to connecting with people in a new way,” she said.
A McAllen native, Zamora graduated from Texas State University with a degree in electronic media journalism and a minor in Spanish before beginning her journalism career at Telemundo Corpus Christi four years ago. During her time there, she worked across multiple roles, including producer, photographer, anchor, weather anchor and reporter.
At KXAN, Zamora served as the station’s KXAN+ digital anchor and reporter, appearing on its streaming platform while covering Central Texas news. She also covered issues affecting the Latino community, including immigration and border-related stories.
