FORT WORTH – Antonio “Tony” Duran, a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather, and faithful servant of God, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the age of 87. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Reception to follow interment at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Rosary: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in Mount Olivet Chapel. Tony was born on March 11, 1939, to Antonio Abeyta Duran and Juanita Roman Duran. He lived a vibrant and purposeful life grounded in faith, deep love for his family, and selfless service to others. A lifelong Catholic, Tony’s faith was the guiding light of his journey. In his later years, he humbly dedicated his time and heart to assisting Catholic Charities in the Fort Worth area serving his community with compassion, grace, and generosity. He also served as a knight with the Knights of Columbus in Almogordo, New Mexico. Above all, Tony was a true family man. He shared 65 beautiful devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia. As a father, he was a pillar of support and unconditional love. Even while balancing the demands of work and school, Tony always prioritized his family. Saturdays were a prized tradition in the Duran household, filled with laughter, love, and his famous homemade pancakes. Whenever his children faced car trouble, Tony was the first to lend a helping hand, always equipped with patience and practical wisdom. For 52 remarkable years, he started a beloved tradition of bringing his family together for an annual camping trip at Bailey Canyon, New Mexico during the 4th of July. It brought together both his family and his wife’s, creating irreplaceable memories across 5 generations. It continues to this day and will endure as a testament of his guiding spirit, passion for music, and honor his memory as the founder. His love for music ran deep, he began playing the french horn in high school and his father taught him how to play guitar at a young age. This began a legacy passed down to this day. His only brother became a professional musician known throughout the Southwest for his songwriting and incredible voice. Sadly, he passed just 7 weeks prior to Tony. During his military service, he performed in a band where he played guitar and sang popular music of the 1960s. He always played and sang traditional Mexican songs taught to him by his parents. In the 1970’s he learned accordion and played it with his four siblings often. Tony and Virginia would always harmonize beautifully, as he did with all of his four siblings during the family gatherings. Tony was a man of warmth and joy with a wonderful appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He had a famous sweet tooth, loved watching westerns, game shows, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the music he grew up with. When he was able, Tony loved to dance, and he took great care in audio recording family gatherings-lovingly documenting the moments that meant the most to him so they could be savored forever. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Antonio Abeyta Duran and Juanita Roman Duran; his son, Michael Duran; his sisters, Bonnie Leaming, Cecilia Howard, and baby Corey Duran; his brother, Freddie Duran; and his daughter-in-law, Pamela Duran. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Duran of 65 years; his sister, Mary Duran; his sister-in-law, Nora Foltz; his brother-in-law, Herb Leaming; his children, Anthony Duran and wife, Mathilda, Joseph Duran, Angela Redding and husband, Jack; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Duran;12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; his siblings; and, many more extended family and friends.
