OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Oklahoma swiftwater rescue teams returned back to the Sooner State after spending a week in Texas to help with the response to the recent floods.

All members of Oklahoma Task Force returned home on Thursday after being deployed to help the communities of Tilden and Three Rivers.

Throughout the deployment, the team supported swiftwater rescue operations.

Guymon’s specialized Swiftwater Search & Rescue team also returned home on Thursday after they were deployed to San Antonio, Crystal City, Asherton, Uvalde, and the Carrizo Springs area. The Guymon team assists with water-related rescues and other flood-response activities.

“Guymon was among several Oklahoma teams that responded to this,” Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley said.

During the mission, they assisted numerous people to higher ground, helped people maneuver through high water, monitored water levels and assisted utility companies in getting wells and pumps back in service to provide drinking water to communities.

“Rescues and being prepared for immediate rescues were our mission, but many things we did were not an emergency, instead they were acts of helping people in need,” said Swiftwater Leader Captain Lane Duer of Guymon.
