WFAA-TV’s newest reporter has some familiarity with the Lone Star state.
Lubbock native Erin Heft is joining the Dallas-based station after spending the last five years working for KCRA-TV in Sacramento, California. Heft began her new gig this week.
“The new chapter begins today,” Heft wrote in an Instagram post. “I’m incredibly honored to join this legendary team!”
While born in Lubbock, Heft grew up across the country and abroad as the daughter of a U.S. Air Force pilot family.
She graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. Heft previously worked as an on-field correspondent for the San Diego Padres’ minor league club, Lake Elsinore Storm, and as an anchor for KXXV-TV in Central Texas.
Heft joined Sacramento’s KCRA-TV in 2021 and won a Northern California Emmy for her work covering a 2022 mass shooting that left six dead. Her final week at the TV station came in late June.
“Thank you Northern California,” Heft wrote on Instagram. “I have accepted a dream position in a legendary newsroom in Dallas Texas.”
