A new poll shows many Americans believe their incomes are failing to keep pace with inflation and that the Trump administration is not prioritizing efforts to lower prices.
The CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted between July 22-24 and asked a sample of more than 2,100 adults across the nation. When asked if their income is keeping up with inflation, 75% of respondents said no.
Similarly, when asked if the Trump administration is focused enough on lowering prices, 78% of Americans also answered no. Most also disagree on tariffs imposed by President Trump, with 64% not in favor.
The country is divided when it comes to gas prices — half of those surveyed say fuel prices are creating hardship. According to AAA, prices have remained around an average of $4 for a gallon of regular gas for the last several weeks.
When it comes to Trump’s overall rating, 39% approve of his job performance, while 61% disapprove.
As the conflict in Iran continues, the CBS News/YouGov poll finds that 58% of Americans are uncertain of the war, while 57% also said they are frustrated. Most Americans think the most important duty of the U.S. is to open up the Strait of Hormuz (86%) followed by making sure the Iranian people are safe and free (79%).
