Fort Worth police shot and killed a suspect who pulled a gun on officers when they approached him after a short pursuit that ended near the I-35W service road on the city’s south side Saturday night, Chief Eddie Garcia said.
Police were looking for the suspect because he had a felony warrant after he cut off his ankle monitor following a previous arrest on the offense of sexual assault of a child, Garcia said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 56-year-old Ricky Shane Lindsey.
When officers found Lindsey driving near I-35 and Risinger Road about 8 p.m., they tried to stop him and he led them on a short chase, police said.
The suspect stopped in a motel parking lot in the 100 block of Palette Drive, which is off the South Freeway service road near Everman Parkway in far south Fort Worth.
When officers approached the vehicle, Lindsey pulled a handgun and officers fired on him, Garcia said.
Police and EMS provided medical aid, and Lindsey was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:34 p.m. His cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, according to the medical examiner’s office.
No officers or civilians were injured in the incident. No passengers were inside the suspect’s vehicle.

In a second fatal shooting this weekend, at least one officer shot a man who advanced on officers with a knife during a domestic disturbance call early Sunday, police said.
That suspect kicked in a door to break into an apartment in the 9200 block of Renee Circle, in west Fort Worth, and he got into a fight with a woman inside, police said. At one point, the suspect retrieved a knife and was using the weapon during the altercation with the resident, Garcia said. According to a 911 call log, the woman reported the suspect was her ex-boyfriend.
When officers arrived, the suspect was outside the apartment and still had the knife, Garcia said. The suspect was in the parking lot and was holding the knife to his throat, police said in a news release.
Garcia said officers gave the man multiple commands to drop the weapon, but he refused and continued to walk toward the officers. At least one officer then fired on the man, who died after he was taken to a hospital.
The department’s Major Case Unit is investigating both shootings.
Police will answer questions about the shootings at a later news conference, likely next week, Garcia said. The department typically releases body-camera video at a press conference within a few days after an officer-involved shooting.
In a separate incident last week, an officer fired one shot at a woman who was accused of shooting a handgun at trees in a far south Fort Worth neighborhood on Belshire Court. The officer’s shot did not hit the woman.
Police searched the woman and her house, but they did not find a gun. Investigators found ammo inside her home that matched a spent shell casing from the scene, and they found an empty gun box with paperwork for a weapon matching the description given by witnesses, police said. The woman was arrested and faces charges of discharging a firearm and evading arrest.
