A 54-year-old man has been identified as the victim who was shot and killed near an outdoor shopping mall in Arlington on Friday night, according to Tarrant County records.
Roberto Leos Alvarez died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Arlington police officers responded to the shooting about 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Highlander Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, police said.
Multiple people reported hearing gunshots, and first responders found the victim inside a pickup truck outside the Arlington Highlands shopping center. Alvarez had been shot several times and died at the scene, police said in a news release Saturday.
Bystanders told investigators that they had seen another driver shoot the victim and head west on Highlander Boulevard. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon, police said in a statement.
Detectives do not believe this was a road rage incident, police said, but they have not commented further on a possible motive for the shooting.
Witnesses to the shooting told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that two trucks were stopped at a traffic light, and a person in one of the vehicles shot a man in the other.
A witness said they heard five or six gunshots and saw the pickup with the victim inside roll into a tree. There was also a dog in the truck, but the animal was unhurt, WFAA reported.
