An Arizona man is paralyzed after deputies responded to a fake 911 call at his Tucson-area home, his attorney says. Attorneys for Axeel Melendez filed a notice of claim seeking $320 million from Pima County and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. They say Melendez warned 911 dispatchers he could be targeted in a swatting incident after strangers allegedly hacked and threatened him. Two days later, someone posing as Melendez called 911 and reported a shooting at his home, according to the attorney. Deputies arrived believing a girl had been shot, and body camera video shows deputies entering Melendez’s room before shooting him multiple times. Melendez suffered a T4 spinal cord injury and is paralyzed from the chest down; the sheriff’s department declined to comment on pending litigation.
