The restaurant’s team announced the news online Monday, saying the Montrose eatery at 1401 Montrose Blvd. will close at the end of the month.
“Since our doors opened, you’ve filled these tables with laughter, embraced dishes you couldn’t quite pronounce, and made Traveler’s Cart part of your own adventures,” read a statement by the Traveler’s Cart team. “To our incredible team, thank you for your talent, passion, and unwavering dedication. You brought this vision to life every single day, and we’re grateful that this same passionate team will continue welcoming and serving our guests at Traveler’s Table.”
Although Traveler’s Cart is closing, the message clarified that its sister restaurant, Traveler’s Table at 520 Westheimer Rd., is “here to stay.”
Both restaurants remained open amid the investigation into the Mitchell family tragedy. Two days after the couple and their children were found dead inside their River Oaks home, the teams announced in a joint social media statement that both concepts would continue operating.
“As Traveler’s Table and Traveler’s Cart remain open for business, we want to thank our loyal staff, who have shown up and worked through these difficult circumstances, ensuring that we continue to serve our community,” read a May 6 statement. “We are asking for unity and respect for our privacy as we navigate this immense loss. Hospitality comes from within, and to honor the Traveler’s Legacy, we will continue to welcome you into our restaurants.”
The Mitchells opened their globally inspired flagship restaurant, Traveler’s Table, in 2019, before opening Traveler’s Cart in 2024.
Traveler’s Cart representatives have yet to respond to Chron’s request for more information about the decision to close.
