Rose announced the move on July 15, telling followers she “couldn’t stay away for too long.”
“You’re looking at [Houston Public Media’s] new midday news anchor,” Rose wrote on Instagram. “Stoked to be broadcasting both local and statewide newscasts across all Texas NPR stations. Let’s doooo it!!”
Houston Public Media confirmed to Chron that Rose joined the station on July 6 and made her on-air debut about two weeks ago. As midday anchor, she delivers local newscasts for Houston listeners while also anchoring statewide reports carried across Texas NPR stations.
“Shelby is an experienced and established journalist in the Houston area with an extensive network of sources that is already making an immediate impact on our local coverage,” Houston Public Media Station Manager Laurie Ramirez told Chron. “She is a passionate journalist who aligns with our mission to inform and connect communities across the Greater Houston area.”
For Rose, the move was driven by the chance to spend more time on stories beyond the daily news cycle.
“I was really struck by the opportunity to go beyond the headlines and dig deeper into the stories that affect our community,” she told Chron, adding that after witnessing significant changes across the broadcast industry, joining Houston Public Media offered “an opportunity to be a part of an organization that lives up to the true foundations of journalism.”
Rose spent three years at FOX 26 after joining the station in June 2022 from KATV in Little Rock, Ark. Before that, she worked as a multimedia journalist at KX News in Bismarck, N.D.
A Texas native, Rose graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in digital communication and multimedia. While at UTSA, she wrote and photographed sports for the university’s independent student newspaper, The Paisano, and interned at FOX 26 before returning to the station as a reporter years later.
