Drivers traveling into downtown Corpus Christi and the Bayfront on Tuesday night will need to plan as the Harbor Bridge Project temporarily shuts down all southbound Interstate 37 mainlanes.
The overnight closure is scheduled from 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, until 6 a.m. Wednesday between U.S. 181 and North Chaparral Street. The closure will allow crews to move southbound traffic onto a temporary lane while work continues in the area.
Several detours will be in place during the closure.
Motorists traveling southbound on I-37 from the Calallen area will be directed to take the southbound SH 286 connector, exit at Morgan Avenue and turn left to reach the Bayfront and downtown.
Drivers coming from North Beach and Portland on southbound U.S. 181 will also be routed onto southbound SH 286 before exiting at Morgan Avenue and turning left.
Those traveling northbound on SH 286 will be directed to use the Agnes/Laredo Street exit to reach downtown and the Bayfront.
Officials said access to Staples Street and the Uptown area will remain open during the overnight closure.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs and slow down in construction zones. The work is weather permitting.
