A Corpus Christi man is facing a murder charge after police said he admitted to fatally shooting a woman at a home early Monday morning.

According to an arrest affidavit, 65-year-old Alberto Valdez was arrested and charged with murder after officers responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 4100 block of Christie Street around 12:45 a.m. Monday.
Police said the 911 caller reported that Valdez had shot a woman. While officers were on their way, dispatchers received another update stating the caller said Valdez “lost it and got mad” before killing the woman.
When officers arrived, they found Valdez outside the home waiting for them. He was taken into custody without incident.
Officers then entered the home and found the woman in a hallway. According to the affidavit, she had multiple gunshot wounds to her torso and another to the neck. Officers attempted to help her, but they did not find a pulse.
Paramedics later pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Investigators said they recovered a firearm from the kitchen and collected shell casings from inside the home as evidence.
According to the affidavit, a neighbor told investigators he had spoken with Valdez the previous afternoon. During that conversation, Valdez allegedly told the neighbor, “If you hear gunshots later, you already know it’s me.” The neighbor also told police Valdez had been complaining about the woman for some time.
Police said Valdez later admitted to detectives that he shot the woman.
He was booked into the Nueces County Jail on a charge of murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
