A popular fast food restaurant in Houston is facing backlash after a customer allegedly found a condom in his fried chicken. 

“[He] opened up the chicken and the chicken had a condom in it—a condom,” X said while Matthews held up her phone with a video allegedly taken when the customer found the condom.

“You can tell the condom was cooked in the chicken. If you look at the whole video, it was cooked in the chicken. When they came up here to speak to you all about it, they laughed at it. They thought it was funny.”

Holding what Matthews and X said was the customer’s receipt, the activists asked why police were not notified about “some freak in the kitchen.” The Popeyes manager said she wasn’t there when the alleged incident happened and asked for a moment to step away and call her bosses. While she was away, Matthews and X turned to customers in the dining room, urging them not to order any chicken from that location and request refunds instead.

“My concern is if you eat this chicken, you might want to decide if you want to swallow or spit,” X said. 

Matthews claimed the customer, who was not named in the 16 minute video, had to go to the emergency room and sought to file a police report. She and X also alleged that when the police were called, the officers said, “Well, there’s been no crime committed so we can’t give you a report.”

“Dr. Matthews had to get on the cops and make them take a report. How are you going to say somebody’s sticking a used condom in somebody’s chicken in the back of this place is not a crime. That is absolutely a crime,” X said. “HPD should be ashamed of themselves.”

After showing video of the alleged sandwich to customers in the dining room, Matthews and X went outside to also speak to customers in line at that Popeyes drive-thru. 

Chron attempted to call the Popeyes location where the incident allegedly occurred, but the phone number listed for that restaurant has been disconnected. We also reached out to the Louisiana restaurant chain’s corporate office, which has not yet responded to our request for comment or more details.

Correction: The customer alleged they found a condom inside Popeye’s “chicken.” A previous version of this article stated the condom was found inside a “chicken sandwich.”
