The Teddy Wong’s phenomenon has come to Weatherford, blazing a trail on the courthouse square that will be home to at least two other major restaurants.
For the first month, master dumpling chef Patrick Ru’s upscale Chinese restaurant and wine bar drew such crowds that reservations were booked solid in the little corner space at 102 Houston Ave.
Now, you can finally book a dinner reservation on Teddy Wong’s Resy.com site..
But only at 4 p.m. Or 8:30. Or, if you’re lucky, maybe 4:45.
That’s how popular Teddy Wong’s is after three years of smash success in Fort Worth at 812 W. Rosedale St.

The new Weatherford location isn’t any different from the original.
But the crowd is.
Fort Worth customers come for Ru’s award-winning soup dumplings, hot oil wontons and Peking duck.
So far, the Weatherford favorites are red meat: Mongolian-style Texas beef and wagyu beef pot stickers, along with old-guard Chinese restaurant favorites such as kung pao shrimp and orange chicken.
Teddy Wong’s is better at the old-guard favorites than any Fort Worth restaurant in memory, and the kung pao shrimp lived up to that on a recent visit.

The flavor is what you expect, but at Teddy Wong’s every ingredient is distinct. The peppers and onions taste like fresh vegtables, not like an unrecognizable stir-fry. The shrimp were medium-sized, more than a bite, and plentiful.
For $15-$20, the entrees could easily be split.
Pick one entree to share and make room for Ru’s dumplings (pork, chicken or veggie.
Leave more room for a stunning dessert: chocolate “dumplings” with chocolate sauce and an immaculately sliced strawberry.
The first few days were bumpy, but on this day every dish showed the precision and flavor that Teddy Wong’s has become known for in Fort Worth.
