Officials said the ground stop was due to an ongoing IT outage.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth-based American Airlines has lifted a global ground stop for all of its planes Tuesday evening put in place as it dealt with an ongoing IT outage, officials say.

The ground stop advisory was issued by the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center.

In a statement posted on X, the airline said a technology issue briefly affected its connectivity for some systems, and that systems are coming back online now and flights are departing again.

“We put a temporary ground stop in place while our teams worked to resolve the issue,” the statement reads. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

According to DownDetector, more than 1,400 people have reported issues with the American Airlines app as of 5:45 p.m.

It’s not yet known what caused the outage.
